In Part 3, Rev. Ken Daigle and Rev. Ellen Debenport reveal the heart behind the term “Unapologetic.” Ken shares his journey of overcoming worthiness blocks—from his early days as a gay man in the South to his leadership at Unity World Headquarters. Together, they dismantle the societal myths that keep us small, such as the “finite pie” theory and the fear of being “too full of ourselves.” This segment is a clarion call to stop apologizing for your gifts and recognize that your thriving is the greatest gift you can give the world.
Unapologetic Manifestation: Healing the “Not Enough” Narrative
Ellen Debenport:
So what is manifestation and why is it unapologetic?
Ken Daigle:
You’re the second person in one of these forums that’s asked me that. And it makes me giggle because Chip Conley asked me, “Do you feel like you need to apologize for something?” And I was like, “Hmm, hon, I had to think about it for a moment.” And there certainly have, yeah, no. There have been times in my life, certainly, where I felt I needed to apologize, apologize for who I was as a gay man. I learned to hide very early.
Ken Daigle:
Even applying to Unity Ministerial School, I had advice from another minister. who I love and deeply admire. He was my mentor. And she said, well, maybe you shouldn’t put your husband on the application to ministerial school. It might trigger some people. And I was like, yeah, if it does, then it’s not mine. Of course, I put my husband in the application. I was accepted to ministerial school. I was ordained. I was chair of the board of Unity World Headquarters. They’ve overcome all those things. And that little bit of of hiding still permeates some parts of my consciousness. So I need to uncover that.
Ken Daigle:
Part of the work of being truly abundant and to manifest in the world, I had to explore and continuing to explore all those places where I feel not worthy, not worthy of fully receiving, not worthy of fully manifesting my good.
Ken Daigle:
And where it’s really falling for me recently, Ellen, is I literally found myself saying, oh yeah, I know I am prosperous and I know this book I’m proud of. I’m proud of the work that we did on this book. But I don’t know how to make a company that makes all this happen. I don’t know how to promote a book or to get it to all the people that need to see it. And the person I was saying this to looked at me and said, like, You don’t think you did that at Unity San Francisco? You don’t think you did that at Unity World Headquarters? You were chair of the board of Unity World Headquarters. And so sat there and went, Oh, there’s my shit now. There’s my belief that I’m not good enough to do this, to make this happen.
Ken Daigle:
And so unapologetic manifestation, is a claim, a claim to my wholeness, and for each and every one of us to step fully into our gifts, fully into who we truly are, and unapologetically claim that I am worthy of having an abundant, full life.
Ken Daigle:
And as I do that, I create the space for other people to thrive. I create the space for other people to have prosperity in their lives, other people to have vibrant health and enriching relationships and work they love. That’s why I wrote the book, is to show everyone what has been so freely given to me. This gift of manifesting in the world is to take an idea, concept of dream, and make it real, tangible, and actionable in the world. And that’s why when the name came up, Unapologetic Manifestation, I was like, yes, that’s it. And it’s unfolding in my life right now. It’s unfolding as we speak.
Dismantling the “Finite Pie” Fallacy
Ellen Debenport:
I can add why it’s unapologetic for me, since I helped you come up with the title. I was going to give you a little kudos, but I didn’t know if you wanted to go there.
Ken Daigle:
No, that’s fine.
Ellen Debenport:
To me, I have sometimes been shy about even believing in manifestation or letting people know that I’m trying to manifest something. I’m afraid they’ll think I’m woo woo or it’s magical thinking. And so I have to, as you were saying, stand in who I am to say, this is what I believe and this is what I’m going to do in my life. So it’s unapologetical.
Ken Daigle:
Yeah, and there’s so much of that. I mean, I talk about it in that we are all taught that you shouldn’t take too much ’cause you need to leave some for other people, right?
Ellen Debenport:
Don’t be greedy.
Ken Daigle:
Don’t be greedy, don’t take so much. And that’s this belief that the pie is only so big. And if I take a big slice, someone else has to go without. And I believe that’s a fallacy.
Ken Daigle:
The other one is, of course, don’t get too big for your britches. coming from the south, that’s what I was told, but I would say, and the other is, don’t be too full of yourself, right? And I was like, well, who else are you gonna be full of? I’d rather be full of me to fully understand my gifts and what I bring.
Ken Daigle:
So to step unapologetically forward and say, I want to claim this. And my claiming it is a gift to the world. It’s nothing I need to apologize for. It’s everything I need to create for the world.
